As summer nears its end, we begin to think about and anticipate the students who will be joining us when a new school year begins. We envision students at work and the quiet hum of engagement as we meet individual needs, moving everyone forward. We look forward to the engaged, passionate discussions about wonders, discovery, and learning.
I sit under the shade of the porch as the warm summer sun surrounds me. Rocking in my chair, enjoying the calm of nature and comfort of home, I get lost in my book and lose all track of time.
As educators, we are wired to look for the successes. We watch, measure, and celebrate our students’ successes, big and small. Small academic achievements, positive behavioral changes, and social triumphs bring us pride, joy, and fulfillment. When our students don’t succeed, it causes sadness, worry, and of course pressure.
Listen carefully.
