I just discovered a new book by Eric Litwin (the original Pete the Cat author) and illustrated by Tom Lichenheld. If you love Pete, you’ll love Groovy Joe in this story title Groovy Joe–Ice Cream & Dinosaurs.

It has a lovable character in Groovy Joe, a fun story with lots of rhyme and a good messages about sharing and turning a problem into an opportunity. Great musical bits, which you can download.

AND–there’s an additional song that would be a great “brain break” dance with lots of movement and easy to remember lyrics.

Strategy wise, I can see lots of ways to use this book:

–For rhyming practice

–Tune in to interesting words and use in speaking and writing

–Punctuation enhancing prosody

–Text features–the book in chocked full of examples

–Rereading for fluency (I guarantee this will be a favorite of your students)

Check it out–a great addition to your books to use for strategy intros–and just plain fun!!
