This year I switched from our old Spelling lists to use Words Their Way. If you’re not familiar, it’s a spelling program that uses pre-assessment inventories to figure out where in the spectrum of spelling development each student is, and where they need instruction. Students are then placed in groups that correspond to the appropriate level they’re at. I have 4 groups, and meet with them a couple times during the week to work on their group of words. The framework of the spelling relies on learning different spelling patterns and sorting words to fit into the different categories. That way, students of all levels are challenged and don’t get bored with the generic word lists.

I am in grade 4. The students use Banagram, Scrable, tautogrammes.
