What are some proven strategies for welcoming a new student into the Daily 5 routine? We will be about 12 weeks into the school year, and two new students will join us. Our 2nd grade - 5th grade (yes, really in one room) stamina average is 40 minutes. I have no expectation that the new students will fall right into place, but I don’t want to disrupt the stamina we built. I would love some advice regarding making this transition work for everyone.
Perhaps during early rounds when they enter, you can confer with them about behavior expectations and I charts. And, it never hurts for the whole class to do a review of expectations. You can discuss your CAFE board, if you are doing CAFE, and have different students explain appropriate strategies to your new kiddos.
