My students enjoy epic books but no one likes the MP3s or Leap pad. I loop 2nd/3rd grade. Any suggestions? We do have listening centers with CDs. Also not a hit. Other teachers do "rotations" not true choice for centers. My kids are skipping listen to reading.
Just one thought--Do they do well with the other four Daily 5 choices? Perhaps let Listen to Reading with technology rest for a while. While it is supportive and helpful for students to hear good models of reading, they hopefully hear you read aloud often, and hear good modeling during Read to Someone. You might also buddy up with an older class and have a few readers from that class come to read to a child or two to model good reading. Parent volunteers can most definitely be used for this purpose, as well. Listen to Reading is for students to hear good models of fluent reading, so you can be as creative as you please. Also, remember, it doesn't have to happen every day. Make sure that Read to Self and Work on Writing happen every day, and the other 3 Dailies can be choices throughout the week.
