I have been using the Daily 5 for many years now and I love it. I especially like the “shoe” lesson and how that relates to picking “just right” books. I have not liked the "K’ section for the I Pick poster - especially after the Three Ways to Read a Book lesson. So today I found a solution that feels better to me. For “k” I wrote "Do I know how to read this book? and under that I wrote - Can I read the pictures? Can I retell myself the story? Can I read most of the words?
I think this is a better message for my first graders.
