Let the interruption be the instruction! My kindergarten students pack journals in baggies with pencils included when we head off on walking field trips to the museum or the river bottoms. Students are given a prompt before we start, such as "Find three things that show winter is coming", and when we have found the perfect place to journal during the outing, they draw and write responses. Many parent helpers come with us, so assistance and encouragement can be given to small groups for the writing process. We can pair share there or back at the classroom. The experience often leads to larger writing and reading projects within the classroom, and can have science and social studies themes. A great way to integrate Daily 5 and real world learning.
