Hi

I’ve been a relief/sub teacher for a few years since graduating (young kids at home); after having spent substantial time in many classrooms with diverse teaching methods and not yet being convinced on the most effective teaching of core subjects. After much research, I found myself purchasing the Daily 5 and Cafe books and I am currently doing their online modules. I have totally emerged myself into the sisters’ ways and have it all in my head (and my heart) however, I am a very visual learner and feel like I need more to consolidate all my new knowledge.

I am trying to find an early childhood classroom (Yr 1, 2 or 3 - even PP at a push) that has the Daily 5 and Daily 3 firmly anchored in their teaching that I could visit, to be able to see it in action. I am very willing to lend a helping hand with small groups and conferring while I am there. I live just south of Perth city but I am willing to travel a reasonable distance. I am quite aware of the extra pressure thats involved in having additional people hanging around in class, I would however intend to be an asset for the period of time you are willing to have me.

Thank you in advance if anyone is willing to invite me.

Nicky xx

How exciting to hear that Daily 5 and Daily 3 are reaching teachers like you all around the world! I hope you hear from some friends around Perth to visit.
I understand about “seeing it in action” on a daily basis, but don’t forget about the plethora of short videos here on the website that can give you a bird’s eye view of what you’ve read about. And, if we can answer any questions you might have, don’t hesitate to post here.
Wishing you the best!

Hi Nicky,
We are small semi rural school of 95 on the outskirts of Melbourne in the Yarra Valley. We have taken up Cafe, Daily 5 and Math Daily 3 this year in our 1-3 classrooms following purchasing the books and doing The Math Daily 3 and Cafe webinars this year so far with Daily 5 to commence in Term 3. Although we are new to this and still learning and tweaking as we go you are more than welcome to visit should you have any plans to head east . We are very use to other adults being in our rooms. Unfortunately for you we are on the other side of the country but my family and I will be visiting Perth in Jan and I would be happy to meet with you for a chat and swap ideas and info. Feel free to contact me if you wish.
I would also be interested in hearing from teachers in schools around Melbourne doing Daily 5 AND cafe and maybe even the trio.
All the best

What a great resource you could be for Nicky! Thank you for sharing. Are you on Facebook? I happened to run in to a page called “Daily 5 SA”. Since I’m from San Antonio, TX in the US, I thought it was a group from here–but, no–it’s a group from Southern Australia! Both of you might want to check it out. Seems to be a pretty active group.

Hi Tracy
Wow , what an exciting and busy time for you over there … I SO wish you were here nearer to Perth!! Thank you so much for the invitation to observe, I will need to wait to see how the year pans out as I can’t really afford to take that much time away from my own little teens as my hubby is away on work a lot … but you never know you may just get a message from me

Hi, I’ve been using Daily Cafe for 2 years and I’m in WA - but up in Newman. This year, for the first time in over 20 years, I am teaching Y1 & 2 and would be grateful for any ideas that would help me.
Regards,
Gillian

One idea for you to check-out–if you’re on Facebook, there is a group called Daily Five SA (for Southern Australia) that is very active and lots of great conversations. You might want to check it out!!
Question–how old are the students in Y1 &2?
