Everyday, within two minutes of setting the kids out to build stamina students (gr 2/3) start asking for the washroom. You let one and then your bombarded. How to deal with this? I've told, reminded, and asked students to use recess and lunch for the bathroom. Usually have a don't ask just sign out policy but this group of students are taking advantage of it wildly. What do others do, especially when at the beginning of the year and building that ever crucial stamina?
Bathroom stamina is a part of the bahavior goals listed at the bottom of the CAFE Menu. If this problem is a whole class concern, I'd recommend starting off your day with a "lesson" and chart for that "skill". Talk about how breaking stamina for any reason, including bathroom breaks, causes everyone to break stamina. Just as you would call your group back together when working on Read to Self, etc, you need to pull the group back and discuss how we can grow this stamina. Now if it's just a few students, you might confer with them individually.
