Check for Understanding–Whole Group Lesson

Checking for understanding while reading is an important comprehension strategy. In this video, Janet Scott shares the strategy with a group of first graders. Janet models repeatedly and it isn't long before the students participate with her, using this great fix-up strategy in a whole-group setting. Janet will model and practice many additional times, knowing that frequent exposure is required if all students are going to become proficient in using this strategy automatically.
