In honor of the life and work of Maurice Sendak, here is a Lit Lesson from his legendary book, Where the Wild Things Are. Max's imagination goes wild when his mother sends him to his room without supper. Possible Strategy Instruction:

  • C: Use prior knowledge to connect with text.
  • C: Make a picture or mental image.
  • A: Say the word slowly.
  • F: Use punctuation to enhance phrasing and prosody.
  • F: Practice common sight words and high frequency words.
  • E: Tune in to interesting words and use new vocabulary in speaking and writing.
  • E: Use Dictionaries, Thesauruses, and Glossaries as tools.
