Walter the Farting Dog is a story about a small dog with a big problem. He has horrible gas! He stinks up the house and may have to be sent to the pound. Will he be saved?

Possible strategy instruction:

  • C: Summarize text; Include sequence of main events.
  • C: Make a mental picture or image.
  • A: Skip the word and then come back.
  • F: Use punctuation to enhance phrasing and prosody.
  • F: Reread text.
  • E: Tune in to interesting words and use new vocabulary in speaking and writing.
  • E: Use dictionaries, thesauruses, and glossaries as tools.
