Restore Energy, Spirits, and Joy

"In the unlikely event of a sudden loss of cabin pressure, oxygen masks will drop down automatically. Be sure to secure your own mask before assisting others."

If you've ever been on an airplane, you've heard the above mantra. On every plane, before every takeoff, on every runway around the world, passengers are reminded of the importance of taking care of themselves so they'll be able to tend to others.

We recently attended a Women's Leadership Summit here in Seattle where Shandel Slaten, a Master Certified Coach, was the featured speaker. Shandel is passionate about training and motivating women to achieve success in their businesses and relationships. Throughout the day she emphasized a very similar message to the one above. We will be ineffective at meeting the needs of others if our own tanks are depleted.

It is so easy to get out of balance. We have poured ourselves into our students and their families, our teaching partners and colleagues, and the additional requirements of this job we love. How many of us are crawling to the finish line?

With summer almost upon us, we are looking forward to breathing the oxygen and we hope you will rejuvenate along with us. That's why we are introducing a new weekly segment designed to renew and restore our energy, spirits, and joy. It is called b-Resilient written by contributing writer Carol Moehrle.

Breathe in, and enjoy.
