Are you looking for a simple game to practice subtraction? In this video, you will see some of Joan's students playing the game "Take it Away." Student's play this game using one die, 4 different colored counters each and the game board. Once the die is rolled, they subtract, or count back 1 from the number rolled and place a counter on the corresponding number. The object is to get 3 counters in a row. We couldn't help but giggle when we saw Enzo, the young boy in the video, pull a fast one on Sofia, in front of a video camera no less! (watch carefully or you may miss it) We actually used this video to show another class what happened, fostering a wonderful conversation about playing by the rules, remembering that the goal is the practice, not just winning.
