Many of the letters in our English alphabet make more than one sound, which can make it tricky to read accurately. Teaching children to use their knowledge of letter sounds by trying out, or "flipping," to other sounds a letter can make within a word can help them decode. They try the additional possible sounds until the word makes sense.
The following guide will help teachers assess student performance of the strategy.
