This idea is easy to set up and will help promote positivity and continued learning when you are absent.

If you know ahead of time that you are going to be gone, leave a note similar to the following on the board:

Dear Room 11,

I am so sorry that I can’t be with you today. I don’t like missing a minute of our time together. Help me know what I missed by recording things you are proud of throughout the day and posting them here. I can’t wait to see what made you feel good and what you accomplished.

Sincerely, Mrs. Sabo

Place a sticky note on each student’s desk so they will be ready to record something they are proud of. Leave more notes by the board so they can have another as needed.

If your absence is unplanned, your guest teacher can write a similar note.

Dear Mrs. Sabo,

We missed you today, but here is what we did while you were gone to make ourselves proud.

Room 11

Students can be hard on guest teachers. If they are focused on making themselves proud, it can be a great day for everyone in the room.
