Janet models the vocabulary strategy of 'asking someone to define the word' in this whole class lesson. She tells the students that this is a last resort strategy because we don't always have someone close by us when we are reading, and we want to be as independent as we can. She tells the class she was able to read the word, she then read around the word, she saw the word in other places and she still couldn't come up the meaning so she is going to ask someone to help her.
