This text can be used with nearly any strategy on the CAFE Menu. The strategies chosen are a highlighted collection to use as a springboard for further instruction. Possible strategy instruction:

  • C: Ask questions throughout the reading process.
  • C: Make a mental picture or image.
  • A: Use meaning and context to confirm.
  • A: Look for word parts.
  • A: Try a different sound.
  • F: Use punctuation to enhance phrasing and prosody.
  • F: Read the text as the author would say it, conveying the meaning or feeling.
