This is one of the very first go-to accuracy strategies we teach to our beginning readers and used to think it was reserved for beginning readers alone.  However, we now realized that using the pictures is also an effective strategy for all levels of readers, in particular when it comes to reading non-fiction.  As students learn about text features and reading captions of pictures, this is a vital strategy.
