Making mental images is an important comprehension strategy. Gail realizes pretty quickly that these students don't need much coaching with this strategy. She assigns them the task of finding a place in their good-fit books where a clear picture or movie pops into their heads, and asks them to be ready to share it with the class the following day. Having peers model strategies is a powerful teaching tool and helps develop the idea that we are in a community where we are all teachers and learners.
