Sense of Direction

Our dad had a great sense of direction. He was never lost—or at least he never admitted to us that he got lost! Whether he was in a big city or on a dirt back road, his true north was always his guide. Dad’s life took many twists and turns, but he was always at peace with the direction in which he was going.

Not all people have this innate sense of direction—or even know where they are going. Some are okay with meandering, and find peace in the unknown. Other people, however, become frustrated and irritated if they lose their way, and then they muddle around trying to get back on track.

There is no right or wrong way to find your direction. In navigating our highways, we have technology to assist us with staying on course. In navigating our lives, however, we can choose to remain calm and be patient with an occasional detour, or we can become frustrated when we get stuck behind a slow-moving vehicle.

Whether your own sense of direction is finely tuned or only minimally functional, you are not alone. You are right where you should be on this journey of life. May your sense of direction fill you with peace and certainty.
