De-Stressing the Holiday Season

For some of us, the holidays put extra strain on our already crazy lives. Balancing family lives, home and work schedules, students, and school events can be enough to stress you out, even without the holidays. Here are some helpful tips to reduce stress during this busy time:

  • Stay active and don’t forget to get enough sleep. You still need six to eight hours of sleep each night.
  • Eat right whenever you can. Don’t skip meals, and limit over-indulgence in those holiday treats.
  • Simplify. Ask yourself, Is that critically important for a happy holiday? If not, then let it go.
  • Start new traditions that are focused on the gift of time, not money.
  • Have realistic expectations of yourself and others.
  • Give yourself permission to say no. You don’t have to attend every event and participate in every party. Be selective when spending your energy. Learn to say, “No, thank you.”
  • Ask for support, mentally and physically. Allow others to help you through the holidays.
  • Laugh and have fun!

Find your balance of activities, food, and fun for successful, less stressful holidays.
