Listen to the Silence

I’ve begun to realize that you can listen to silence and learn from it. It has a quality and a dimension all its own.
—Chaim Potok

When was the last time you sat in silence? Is it even possible to find silence in our busy lives and world?

The clock on the wall continues to tick in rhythm in the silent room.
The little dog lies sleeping and snoring in the silence of the night.
The crickets continue to chirp in the dark, silent outdoors.
The river continues to flow and babble as it makes its way over rocks.
The footsteps of nocturnal animals can be heard in the still of the night.

Listening to silence awakens our senses to the hidden movements of the world around us. Much of our world thrives on silence while the rest of us seek it out to bring balance to our lives.

Make time in your life to listen to the silence. It has the potential to stimulate our insight into the world around us and bring us peace.
