Balance Your Energy

We cycle through each year with some routine and familiarity with the calendar. We know the reoccurring, predictable milestones of birthdays and anniversaries. We sense the end of summer and predict the beginning of school each fall. We anticipate the weather changes and perhaps the first snowfall each winter.

These cyclic events have us cycling our energy level to match. If you are a teacher, you may feel frenzied when school begins, calmer midterm, and frenzied again at the end of a term. If you are a parent of small children, you may find that your energy calms once you send them back to school and enter the routine of the school cycle.

Whatever events your calendar cycles hold for you, know that you will have times that are chaotic and hectic. It’s normal for our energy to come and go with waves of intensity during those times. However, we cannot maintain dramatic fluctuations in energy for long. If that continued state of chaos takes over our routine life cycles, we become stressed out and burned out.

We must strive for periods of calm energy to balance the inevitable hectic times. Balance your energy between hectic times and calm times in your life. Remember, your energy has cycles just like the calendar.
