Positive math conversations can be a powerful component in moving students forward in math. In this video, Pam and her sixth grade students discuss what considerations need to be made in order to have meaningful and positive math talk. The discussion will help lead to ground rules for their future work in thinking and conversing together.

Pam's sixth graders have regrouped to discuss the parameters they've set for math conversations within work time. Because of the guiding questions Pam posed, the students have come prepared to share how they will help each other without giving answers, what they will do and sound like when the work is hard (or easy), and what their conversations will sound like when they disagree with each other.
