In this video, Joan models a one-on-one conference for Rachel. To check in, Joan asks Griffin to read just a sentence or two, and then offers a strategy to help him fine-tune his fluency. She links the strategy with a personal interest of Griffin's, helping it to be clear, unintimidating, and easily accomplished.
In the debrief, Joan and Rachel talk about what they learned about Griffin and what his next steps might be. Realizing that a child's fluency won't differ greatly from his or her natural speech patterns, they discuss a few things they might try with him in the weeks to come.
