Tyler is a fourth grader who loves non-fiction. Joan and Jeanette confer with him as he reads a book about bats. They discover he has good comprehension, but is struggling with longer words. They help him by providing some Accuracy strategies and guide him as he practices. They make a plan to meet with him in two days to see if looking for smaller words, blending sounds together, and cross checking are helping him accomplish his goal.
You may notice toward the end of the video Tyler reaches in his book box and pulls out his eyelighter to help him focus on what he is reading. This tool is one we use with many students who benefit from the extra reading focus.
