Math by Myself is introduced much like the components of Daily 5, following the 10 Steps to Teaching and Learning Independence.
In this first video Karen teaches the Math by Myself behaviors and explains how they mirror Read to Self, allowing Math by Myself to get up and running quickly.
In this second video students model the behaviors of Math by Myself, completing steps four and five of the 10 Steps to Teaching Independence. Step five of the 10 steps calls for an incorrect model immediately followed by a correct model of the same student. At the time this video was filmed, Karen was trying to give more students a chance to particpate and was not aware of the importance of having the same student model both. Her practice has since changed.
