Checking in is so valuable that we even do it with our youngest learners, though it does take them more time to become efficient at it. Sometimes we use a timer as an incentive to be ready and keep the process going. You'll notice that most of our kindergarten students are able to articulate their goals and strategies. The conferring forms, which enable us to differentiate our instruction, help us jump in with goals and strategies when students can't recall.
