We really enjoy watching Carlene Bickford's second grade students check in with their Daily 5 choice and their goals and strategies. There is an extra bonus in this video that we really want you to hear. We debrief this check in with Carlene who then talks about how she's refined our thumbs up/thumbs to the side self-reflection.
She uses a 0-3-5 system, where the students hold up fingers indicating their performance. We now use her system, but tweaked it to match the standards based reporting system we already have in place. It's a brilliant idea, and we are so glad Carlene shared it with us.
