The kindergarten students in Pat Watson's room are learning that writers revise and edit as they go, that it's part of every writer's process, and that it isn't a big deal at all. Don't you love that? In case you don't read "kindergarten" this story says "The troll won't let the 3 Billy Goats Gruff cross the bridge." The author realized as she read over her story that she had left out the word let, so her teacher showed her how to add it with the help of a ^ (caret). Then, as the author finished reading, she realized she'd written gruff twice. Her teacher emphasized that this wasn't a problem at all; she merely needed to cross it out and continue on.

We love the authenticity of this writing process, and we especially love teachers who present these skills to our youngest writers.
