When students come to a word they don't know, one strategy they can use is to skip over it and read to the end of the sentence.  Context clues will often provide the support needed to figure out the word.  Once they get to the end of the sentence, students back up, read the sentence again, and use the context clues as well as the first letter or letters of the skipped word to decode successfully.

The following guide will help teachers assess student performance of the strategy.
