Joan and Gail are in a sixth grade classroom where they are modeling the use of strategies with a picture book. Each student has a CAFE Menu in front of them to refer to as the strategies are modeled. The students are engaged and eventually realize that many strategies are used throughout the reading experience.

Gail and Joan eventually ask students to model strategies with their own text while the class guesses the strategies as they use them.

This video is great to show to the class to explain the lesson and to see if your class hears and sees the same strategies as this group of students.

We use this lesson with favorite picture books frequently; in order to review and reinforce strategies we've learned as a group.
