When we introduce Daily 5, we start by launching Read to Self and build stamina. Students aren't introduced to the next Daily 5 until they are independent with Reading to Self. We use the following criterion:

Intermediate Students = 1214 Minutes of Stamina

Primary Students = 1012 Minutes of Stamina

Kindergarten Students = 78 Minutes of Stamina

Using the guidelines above, we know when students are ready to layer on the next Daily 5. We introduce Work on Writing next,  and when stamina for writing reaches the above criteria, we layer on the next Daily 5.

Once we introduce Read to Self and Work on Writing, the other three Daily 5 are introduced in any order. Typically we introduce Read to Someone last since there are so many behaviors that need to be taught in order for students to be successful. We encourage you to introduce what makes sense to you and the group of children you have.
