Performing the Daily 5 task, Read to Someone

Gail Boushey and Joan Moser start by presenting the foundational brain and learning research underlying The Daily 5 and the five core literacy components that, practiced every day, create independent readers and writers. This workshop covers basic and advanced Daily 5 techniques for structuring classroom literacy time so students can work independently and productively while you deliver instruction in small groups and one-on-one.

Participants learn how to:

  • Apply the Daily 5 structure for their classroom's grade level (K-12)
  • Launch each Daily 5 task
  • Implement Common Core through the Daily 5
  • Support barometer children
  • Use the Math Daily 3 components
  • Integrate The Daily 5 and CAFE for maximum impact

7.5 total hours minus a long lunch break = 5.75 hours of direct instruction by the two sisters

CAFE: The What and How of Literacy Instruction

Using the CAFE Menu to choose a reading goal and strategy

Joan Moser and Gail Boushey present the four components associated with reading mastery: Comprehension, Accuracy, Fluency, and Expanding Vocabulary (CAFE). The workshop covers a menu of strategies and tactics to move students through each stage of literacy development.

Participants learn how to:

  • Assess students and determine next instructional steps using the CAFE Menu
  • Establish strategy-based student groups
  • Structure small groups and one-on-one teaching sessions
  • Monitor progress and student learning for every group and one-on-one interaction
  • Implement Common Core through simple CAFE methods
  • Apply The CAFE system to whole school activities

7.5 total hours minus a long lunch break = 5.75 hours of direct instruction by the two sisters

Workshops are held in pairs; attend one or both. The fee is $255 per person, per day when paid with credit card, and $295 per person, per day for purchase orders. Fee includes:

Purchase Order and Check Registration

The time it takes to generate Purchase Orders varies according to each school district's process. Because workshop reservations are based on the date we receive payment, we encourage you to submit your Offline Registration Form as far in advance of your preferred workshop date(s) as possible. We encourage you to follow up with your business office to confirm they have processed your request and made payment. Payments received after the workshops are full will not be processed--but we'd much rather have you with us!

Follow these steps to make individual or group reservations for any of our upcoming workshops:

  • Print and complete the Offline Registration Form
  • Attach Purchase Order or Check to form
  • Mail form and payment to address provided on the registration form

Your place is reserved as of the date we receive payment. You will receive confirmation of your registration from TicketLeap for the number of attendees indicated on the registration form. Final steps are:

  • Link to TicketLeap from your confirmation email
  • Enter the name of all participants

Don't forget to book your hotel room!

Registration Confirmation

Once registered, you will receive a confirmation email. To check on the status of your reservation and to print a receipt, go to TicketLeap and enter the email address you used to place your order.

Continuing Education Credits

Depending on the criteria for your region, it is possible to get credits or clock hours for attending the workshops. Click here for important information and requirements.

Cancellation and Substitution Policy

If for some reason you are unable to attend, your substitute is welcome. Just make sure they bring the original ticket to the workshop.

We are happy to give a full refund, less a $25 processing fee per person, for cancellations 31 or more days before the workshop. No refunds are issued within 30 days of the event. If you are not able to cancel prior to the cut off or provide a substitute, we are happy to mail the workshop materials upon request. Email us at to cancel or request materials.
