FAQ-How many books should I have in each of my library tubs?

Q: Is there an ideal number of books to have in a tub? Some of my tubs have

almost 50 books in them. I'm guessing the children never make it through

all of them to even see what's at the bottom.

A: The end of the year is a wonderful time to evaluate how many books are in each tub in our classroom libraries. When we find one of our tubs getting overly full or too many books in the tub which make browsing a battle instead of a joy, we know it is time to add another tub!

To do that, we merely create a duplicate label (or have our students create the new label) that matches the packed book tub label. We have kids divide the books between the two tubs and try to place the tub next to it's partner in the library. Viola, browsing is back to being a breeze!
