FAQ - Can Parents do Daily 5 at home?

Printer-Friendly Format

If only Trevor' parents would help him practice the independent behaviors of the Daily 5 at home during his homework time. Has a similar thought ever crossed your mind?

We know that if he would:
1) read/or work the whole time
2) stay in one spot
3) work quietly
4) get started right away
5) work on stamina, he would make considerably more progress. Maybe we need to let parents in on our secret of building independence.

Here is an idea, hold a parent night where you teach parents how to help their child build stamina at home. Let them in on the essential behaviors for independence and give their child an additional Daily 5 round each evening. We are guessing that homework would get done more quickly and reinforcing the behaviors at home will help them transfer in the classroom.
