FAQ - When do I start assessing my students?

Printer-Friendly Format

For many of us, a new school year is just beginning. The first days of school are jam packed with learning and practicing procedures for Daily 5, building community and building school stamina.

Our goal is to have Daily 5 up and running and all of our students assessed by the fourth to sixth week of school. Because we want to give our own diagnostic assessments, we start assessing individual students once the class has built about 7-10 minutes of "Read to Self" stamina". Since we are usually unable to complete one child's whole assessment in a round that short, we complete it during the next few rotations.

We usually start assessing our students by the end of the second week of school. As we launch each new Daily 5 choice, we wait a day or two for the class to build stamina with that Daily before continuing with our assessments.
