FAQ - I recently read both the Daily 5™ and The CAFE™ Book. In the Daily 5™ students seemed to have time to work independently in 5 areas and in The CAFE™ Book they seemed to only get 3 rounds? What am I missing?

Printer-Friendly Format

First of all, thank you to Joan in Wichita Kansas for reading our books so carefully that she noticed what might be construed as a contradiction. You aren't missing anything Joan and here's the deal. When we first wrote Daily 5™ we did talk about doing all five rounds.

However, reality for most of us is a ninety-minute literacy block and we can only fit three rounds of Daily 5™ in a primary block (and only two in intermediate). Students select from the Daily 5™ activities that will best help them achieve their literacy goals. The CAFE™ book reflects our newest learning and current practice.

Thanks for asking the question. We hope the answer clarifies confusion for others as well.
