FAQ - What if my students have already had experience with the Daily 5™? Won't they be bored?

A Colleagues are frequently concerned about students who've had one or more years experience with the Daily 5™. Will they be bored? Will their learning become stagnant within the familiar framework?

Daily 5™ is a reliable menu of anticipated activities. Students who have had experience with the Daily 5™ will need a brief review of the procedures and expectations of independent behaviors, then will be ready to dive into their self-selected books and to write more, with greater stamina, because they have a previous understanding of the urgency and purpose behind the Daily 5™ activities.

We love this quote by Lucy Calkins,

"It is significant to realize that the most creative environments in our society are not the ever-changing ones. The artist's studio, the researcher's laboratory, the scholar's library are each deliberately kept simple so as to support the complexities of the work-in-progress. They are deliberately kept predictable so the unpredictable can happen. 1983, p32. Lessons from a Child. Portsmouth, NH: Heinemann.

We believe the predictable structure of the Daily 5™ produces the right environment for tremendous learning and growth to occur, whether students are embarking on it for the first time, or for the fifth year in a row.
