FAQ - How do I get started with Daily 5 and the Website?

Printer-Friendly Format

A: We heard from a few members recently who are embarking on their Daily 5 journey this coming fall. They wrote asking if we could post some suggestions for how to start learning about Daily 5 so they'll be prepared for the school year.

So where to start with Daily 5?

You may want to begin the journey by reading the book, The Daily 5. You could engage in a book study or read it independently. Whichever way you choose, you may want to use the Daily 5 Book Study Guide You may also be interested in Lili Borrero's Daily 5 Book Review to see Lili's thinking and notes she took as she read the book.

The website is also a wonderful Daily 5 professional development opportunity. There are almost 1900 pages of articles, downloads, videos, etc. on the website though, so it can feel a bit daunting. One thing that may help are the Quick Start Guides. On the website, look at the right column under Daily 5 and click on the Daily 5 Quick Start Guides. Start with Read to Self and work your way through the others. Reviewing these Quick Start Guides will help you feel confident as you get Daily 5 up an running in your own room.

Another way to utilize the website is to refer to the 'related article' or 'related articles' at the bottom of each page. These links will help you navigate the content that is of current interest to you.

To help you come back to things you find extremely helpful or relevant, we've added a 'Favorites' option. It is located in the top left hand corner where you will see an orange button called Show Bar. This is where you can start saving all the pages you want to refer back to. (This bar can only be viewed when you are signed in as a member) We have a tutorial for how to use this feature that will help you get started.

That should give you a really good start with Daily 5. Then just sit back and enjoy browsing the site. When you are ready, you'll find information on CAFE, Design, and Daily 5 Math as well. Happy Browsing.
