Mother's Day Project: Creative Paper Clips

Printer-Friendly Format

Here is a great Mother's Day project that is simple, inexpensive, functional and so very cute! Turn ordinary paperclips into personalized works of art. What more could one ask for?

Fimo Dough is available at any arts and crafts store. For a classroom of 28 we purchased 4 packages of bright colors.

1) Taking one strip of dough, divide in half, roll each half into two balls and flatten with finger making small circles. Each clip requires two circles, front and back.

2) Press the paperclip firmly into the dough.

3) Flip over and press the second circle of dough on the other side, sandwiching the clip between the two pieces.

4) Choosing a contrasting color, create a design to place on top of the circle. The flower was made by rolling small balls and pushing them onto the base. The heart was the result of 'cutting' the shape with a toothpick. The rose was a flat piece of dough about 1/4 inch wide, 1 inch long. We rolled it up, and pinched the bottom to make it shaped like a funnel, then added the green leaf.

5) The finished product. Top it off with a note, slip the paperclips into slits in the card and you are done! A simple gift, our Moms raved about them!
