FAQ - The sticky notes keep falling off the CAFE board. Any other ideas for students declaring their goals?
Well, the quick and easy fix is to use the Super Sticky Post-it Notes that are available. They have better sticking power. However, you might like this fun idea which comes from Angel Graham Debertin from Centreville, New Brunswick, Canada. Here's what she has to say: "The sticky notes that students added to the CAFE board when declaring their goals were constantly falling off. So after a week, I tried a new idea. I used shapes cut out of foam and wrote the students names on them in permanent marker. An adhesive Velcro dot got placed on the back and the other corresponding Velcro dot was placed on the bulletin board. The students can move their names from goal to goal and they will last all year! I put more Velcro dots than needed under each goal heading so that there is always space as the number of students under each goal is variable and changes."
Materials: *different colored foam sheets (you may be able to find foam shapes commercially prepared but it took me less than 5 minutes to cut out different shapes)
*adhesive Velcro dots (available at a "dollar store")
*Sharpie or permanent marker Steps: * cut out different shapes in different colors
* place corresponding or opposite Velcro dot on CAFE bulletin board. Place several extra under each heading.
* conference and allow student to choose their own shape
* write student name in permanent marker
* stick an adhesive Velcro dot on the back of the shape
* have student place their name tag on CAFE bulletin board
* reusable, last all year, and STAY PUT
