Using Technology With Classroom Libraries (Website)
Emily, from Issaquah, WA, sent the following note and website to us. She gave us permission to share with all of you, since we think many of you may be interested in this technology as well. I attended your Beautiful Classroom Design class earlier this week, and I wanted to pass along a tip that I thought might be helpful to others! On Tuesday you talked about creating an inventory list of all of the books in your classroom for student and teacher reference. Here's a link to a barcode reader that was designed to make this process easier! You just scan in the barcodes on the back of the books and the title, author, etc. of the book gets dumped into a data file, which can then be exported to Excel or wherever. I have one, and it has saved me SO much time not having to type in all of those titles and authors. Plus, it could be used to do classroom library checkout/check in if you were so inclined: http://www.intelliscanner.com/products/media/features.html The best part? They offer a $20 teacher discount! My team pooled some of our PTSA money and bought one ($79) to share, and it has been AWESOME! We're considering getting another one to keep in our book room so that we can keep better track of shared book sets. Thanks, Emily!
