The Beauty in Imperfections

I love natural wood. I am drawn to its texture, the beauty of the whorls, and the uniqueness of each tree knot.

Knots in wood are imperfections that can be caused by a living tree growing around an area where a branch dropped off. The new circles of growth make a beautiful and natural wood grain. To some, the knot in the wood is only an imperfection; to others, it is an artistic expression of nature. The way the tree heals itself after a branch falls off is displayed in the many magical shapes and textures of a tree knot.

When a tree limb with a knot is delicately carved into a one-piece wedge, the simple knot is transformed and unveils a heart shape hidden within that imperfection. And when you place a light behind that carved wedge, the heart shape glows a vibrant pink as the light is transmitted through the delicate imperfection.

Just as with individual imperfections, all it takes is a thoughtful eye to see the natural beauty waiting to shine through each of our delicate knots.

See the beauty in life’s imperfections.
