This menu is used before the CAFE Menu. It was designed for our most emergent readers who need to know how to hold a book, or that a book is read from left to right, or that the scribbles on the page are called letters, and so on. Once students have mastered the skills on this Emergent CAFE, we transition them into the CAFE Menu. Although the heading is still the acronym CAFE, the goals are more appropriate for emergent readers, as are the strategies listed below.
